Deepening our spiritual practice through the power of creativity, words and the poetry of life

 Sundays from 5.15pm(for a 5.30pm start) to 9pm at the Glasgow Buddhist Centre, 329 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G2 3HW.
Bring writing materials, a poem for sharing with 4 copies – yours or by someone else, and vegetarian food to share.

Muck-in Mondays

A weekly opportunity for active dana given in the form of keeping our shrine spaces and centre well maintained, safe, clean and tidy. Join us every week  13:45-16:45 or just when you can. We will start and finish with a short ritual and check-in over a mid-afternoon break. Working together, mindful of each other, in our practice of giving what we can, with an open heart. This is an exploration of team-work and practice and we'd love you to join in. We plan to get greener and so do bring any environmentally friendly cleaning  or DIY know-how you might have.

Repeats every week every Monday. 1.45pm to 4.45pm

Collective Meditation Sessions

An opportunity to practice with others and quiet your mind at the end of your day. Open to all meditators who can sit silently in meditation for 40minutes. Not suitable for beginners as there will be no teaching or guidance given.

We are creating a collective pool of silence in which to refresh our individual being.

Doors open at 4.45pm and the sit begins at 5pm with saluting the shrine (no-one will be admitted after meditation has begun). Starts Monday 6th January 2020, and is every Mon thru Thursday (except during Rainy Season retreat March 8-15th). 

Repeats every week every Monday and every Tuesday and every Wednesday and every Thursday. 5.00pm to 5.40pm

Exploring meditation: For Order members and Mitras. Tuesdays 12:45 - 2pm

An open invitation to all Order members and Mitras to join in a regular group, to meditate and explore practice together. The format is very simple 12:45 meet in GBC's reception room, then 1-2pm is a meditation sit in the small shrine room, followed by an opportunity to say something about what went on for each of us, in that particular session. You are welcome to stay on afterwards for a more informal chat. There is no need to book, just come along - see you there!

Joy Charnley qualified with Yoga Scotland in 2011 and since then has been teaching a range of classess and 1:1 sessions, focussing on body and breath awareness. This is a mixed class. It will have people in it who are experienced yoga practitioners and also warmly welcomes beginners.

You can book for 6 week block (£48/36) or pay each week as a drop in.

Tuesday Dharma Night 7-9pm

Every Tuesday night, all year round, we explore the Dharma and practise together. A community, made up of order members, mitras and people who have completed the level 2 buddhism courses, get together to study a particular aspect of the Buddha’s teaching, to practice meditation, or to take part in puja.  Please feel free to join in every Tuesday or when you can. 

A meditative programme to aid year end refection, integration and resolution.

Yoga with Sara

From Wednesday 29th Jan 2020 to Wednesday 4th Mar 2020, 3.30pm - 4.30pm

Sara teaches a gentle form of yoga which draws on both hatha yoga and buddhist principles, emphasizing the cultivation of a grounded and embodied approach. She trained in mindfulness-based yoga with Bodhiyoga. 

She is a member of the Triratna Buddhist Community in Glasgow, and is offering this six week yoga course on a Dana and drop in basis. Come to one or come to all, and give what you can. Beginners are welcome. 

Young Buddhist Meetup

Young Buddhists: An monthly evening of meditation and Dharma

A monthly meetup for those between 16-35 interested in Buddhism and meditation. A chance to connect, practice and go deeper with those of a similar age. We will eat, chat and meditate together, exploring the theme of 'Virya'- energy in pursuit of the good.

Parinirvana Day Festival

Sunday, February 9, 2020 - 10:30 to 16:00

On Sunday 8 February, we will get together to remember the Buddha’s physical death and Paranirvana, and to bring to mind friends or relations who have died. It will be a warm-hearted day, sharing meditation, reflection and ritual. You are invited to bring along a photo or small memento of a loved one who has died, who you wish to be included in our metta practice. The GBC doors will open at 10am for a 10.30am start. The day will end at 4pm.Please bring some vegan lunch to share.  Led by Taradakini and team. All welcome. 

 

 

Social Action Kula

On the 3rd December some of us hosted a ‘climate quiz’ at the Dharma night class at the GBC.  It was enjoyed by everyone there as far as I could tell. During the evening I talked about launching the Social Action kula of the GBC. A number of people were interested to follow up on this.

My idea is that there will be a variety of sub kulas coming together as I am aware of a number of different issues that we might choose to address:

the climate emergency (we have already participated in a few actions around this);

work with refugees in some way;

poverty;

Meditation Day Retreat

At the end of our regular six-week introductory courses on Buddhism and Meditation we offer a free day retreat to all current and past participants. This is a great opportunity to practice communally together, so we also extend this invitation to the whole sangha community. A warm welcome to all.

We start the day with meditation (generally break for lunch at around 1pm) and the afternoon will be a mix of talks and/or small study reflection/dicussion groups.

Crucible of communication weekends: A Dharma/ Sangha practice

This year there are three weekends which offer the opportunity to take part in the Dharma/Sangha practice of Crucible Communication. Led by Bhadra, from Bristol Buddhist Centre and Viryadevi from Glasgow Buddhist Centre. They facilitate a meditation practice focusing on both internal and external experience. The unique aspect is that we have the opportunity to express our experience to other participants in the practice. Men's residential weekend at Dhanakosa

Rainy Season Retreat 8th -15th March 2020

The Rainy Season retreat is an annual period of seclusion and practice for the members of the Triratan Buddhist Community in Glasgow. The whole centre is closed to the public and nothing else happens except the Rainy Season programme.
