What we'll do
Meet at GBC at 10am, wearing black (we're in grief) and bringing lunch to share and your waterproofs, including waterproof material to carry and cover your meditation cushions (you can borrow from the centre if needed).
We'll meditate together, then head off at 11 - some will go to the Kelvingrove march to join the youth climate strikers on their march to George Square (with the GBC banner), and others will go straight to George Square to set up with tarps in tow!
Once set up in George square, we'll dedicate the space (while we're still able to hear each other), and then become a living exhibition/performance - we'll do a 'drop-in' sesshin, going between 15-20 minute meditations (we'll rotate round mindfulness of breathing, metta and tonglen), with 5-10 minute chanting while walking in a circle in between each meditation. Each of us will be wearing a poster around our necks (GBC will provide double sided in sellotaped polypockets with string attached), saying the following:
- Right now we are being mindful of the earth, breathing in and out
- Buddhists for Climate Action/Love and Grief for the Earth
- Right now we are cultivating love for you, all beings and our planet
- Buddhists for Climate Action/Love in the time of Extinctions
- Right now we are transforming our grief into love
- Buddhists for Climate Action/Actions have CO2nsequences ?
We envisage finishing up at George Square by 1.30pm, then heading back to GBC for lunch and debrief. The idea is that this is a first-go at what we hope will be a model that we use again to take direct action when we know there is something else being organised in the city, or perhaps even when we want to do it ourselves!
